FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a trial period?
A hearing aid must be paid for the day you receive it. According to VT state law, you have a right to return the hearing aid and receive a partial refund during the first 30 days. At Northwest Hearing Services we think 30 days is not long enough to determine whether you are happy with your hearing aid. Therefore, we offer a 60 day trial period. From the date you purchase your hearing aid you have 2 months to decide whether or not you are satisfied with it. If the hearing aid is not living up to your expectations, you may exchange the hearing aid for a different make or model at no charge. You may also return the hearing aid (as long as you do so before the end of your 60 day trial period) and you will receive a refund of your purchase price minus a 5% fee.

What kind of warranty to you offer?
Your hearing aid will come with a 2 year warranty. There will be no charge for any repairs (in office or if needed to be sent back to the manufacturer) during the 2 year warranty period.

What if I lose my hearing aid?
New hearing aids come with a 1 or 2 year (depending on level of technology) loss and damage policy. If you lose or damage your hearing aid it will be replaced with a brand new aid. This coverage is only good once and expires upon use or at the end of the loss/damage policy whether it has been used or not. There is typically a charge for this replacement which can range from $200-$250.

Why do I have ringing in my ears and what can I do about it?
Tinnitus is a medical condition characterized by persistent ringing in one or both ears which can only be heard by the affected individual. For some people it isn’t ringing but instead they describe hearing a whistling, hissing, buzzing or pulsing in their ear. These sounds may come and go or they may be present 24 hours a day. The American Tinnitus Association estimates that over 50 million Americans suffer from tinnitus. There isn’t a single cure for tinnitus. In many cases, tinnitus can be relieved with hearing aids. An electronic device called a Masker may also be worn to distract from the ringing noise. Maskers fit in the ear much like a hearing aid. There are other therapies, including vitamins and herbal supplements that can be helpful. After completing a hearing evaluation, we will discuss your options with you in detail.
